Growing Miltonia moreliana

This species is endemic to southeastern Brazil and is found growing on trees and occasionally on rocks and is very adaptable to cool to warm conditions.

I find this orchid is one of my favourites and builds into a specimen quickly and is relatively easy to grow and no pests have ever been a threat. They should be grown in squat pots or saucers and a mix of bark and perlite is adequate and I have even been successful growing them in sphagnum and perlite. Fertilising is my usual regime of CalMag Finisher weekly and Strike Back for Orchids (liquid) monthly.

Also Plantacote High K slow release is applied when potting. Also I have used the fertiliser baskets that are available from Orchidaceous at various shows quite successfully. They grow in the shade house where I have tried positioning to get the best results but one I tried in higher light under solar weave with no success. So stick with shade.

So give this orchid a go and enjoy growing this striking plant.

Good Growing - David
