How tall do they grow?

This native orchid, Cryptostylis subulata, has been in my collection for a number of years and was mentioned in the article, ‘Where have all the Orchids Gone?’ in our November 2021 newsletter when it first came into flower.

What makes this plant interesting is that I first benched it at the Species Group in early November and was about 250mm tall with half a dozen flowers.   There was nothing unusual  about the size of the plant then. The height of this plant is now 1050mm tall and still flowering. This orchid is a progressive flowerer. It still has two flowers  out and five buds to open. In total will have produced twenty-four flowers. Normally they are not a tall plant and can grow to about 800mm tall.

There are three very small buds developing at the top. This would be the best flowering I have ever had from this plant. Since it came home from the species meeting in November it has been in the carport near the entry to the house. We have both been amazed as to how long the flower spike has grown.
